Dr. Kari Luomakoski, DBA,

Dr. Kari Luomakoski, DBA, is the founder and responsible for the overall operational management of FinnFleet. He started his shipping career at the age of 16 by taking a trainee job on board dry cargo vessel m/s Finnriver. From June 1974 he has been working full time ashore and completed all of his studies while working in various positions within the shipping industry starting from a water clerk and ending to the position of CEO in the oldest Finnish shipping company, in which he acted from 1987 till 2001. In this role, Dr. Luomakoski reorganized the company, opened several foreign subsidiaries and took the company back to its roots: operating ships controlled by the company itself. He has also studied the Aframax market and the economy of oil transport as consultant assignments for several of the world’s major oil companies during a period of six years. The research led to chartering of Aframax vessels on behalf of clients as well as a dissertation on the conduct of time chartering markets. Furthermore, over the course of his professional career, he has established close connections with all of the key participants and companies on the global market.

Charles Bonfield, LLB. (Hons),

Charles Bonfield joined FinnFleet on September 2014 to set up a London based office specializing on sourcing tanker chartering / tanker investment opportunities. Charles has nine years’ experience working on the oil tanker projects desk for a major international shipbroker, latterly heading up that desk. During this period Charles sourced, structured and negotiated numerous deals between ship-owners, oil companies, oil traders and banks, significantly building the company’s book of long-term business. Charles acted as a broker in numerous deals with Kari during this period and was involved in structuring deals for FinnFleet from its inception. Prior to working in the oil tanker market, Charles worked as a shipbroker in the offshore vessel market, chartering and selling/buying vessels for clients in the offshore oil field support industry. Charles has a Law degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC).

Silvia Sousa, BA Economics,
Chief  Financial Officer

Silvia Sousa, ACA, joined Finnfleet in February 2016 as the Chief Financial Officer for the Finnfleet Maritime group. Silvia started her career in Sydney with Ernst & Young within their audit division and once qualified transferred to the London office for a 2-year assignment. Silvia brings with her a wealth of financial experience in both public practice and private and energy industry, specifically her tenor with ConocoPhillips. Her experience includes the set up of financial controls, developing invoicing procedures, performing month end and financial reporting, managing teams and running projects, planning budgets and forecasts and evaluating and analyzing deals. Silvia has a Bachelor of Economics (Accounting and Economics) from the University of New South Wales and a postgraduate qualification with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and is currently a member of the ICAEW and ICAA.

Tuomas Siltala, M.Sc Economics,

Tuomas Siltala joined FinnFleet at the end of 2015 and he is responsible for the development of new financing structures. Prior he has been a Director at Pareto Securities Finland.  In this role, among other projects, he was responsible for raising funds for shipping projects on behalf of Dr. Luomakoski and worked on other shipping finance products, such as bond issuance and equity financing. Earlier in his career, Tuomas co-founded a private equity fund in Finland and was also a founder and CEO of FSA regulated investment bank. Tuomas started his career after his M.Sc. in Economics as an analyst in the Central Bank of Finland and thereafter as a vice president of Nasdaq/OMX Helsinki Exchanges (options and futures).

Joni Nurmentaus, M.Sc Engineering,
Head of Research

Joni Nurmentaus helms the analytics and research function at FinnFleet. He provides analytical support for investment decision making through quantitative modeling with parameters of key market indicators. Joni holds a Master of Science degree in Technology from Aalto University where he majored in Engineering Physics and Mathematics. He worked for Nokia and later Microsoft where he created a predictive model for service demand. Prior to joining FinnFleet in 2016, Joni worked at Boston Consulting Group where he was heavily involved in various projects related to finance, technology, and services across Europe.
